Prescribed Narcotics and college aged kids

Narcotics for a sore throat? Percocet for a sore neck??? Yikes! All those years of baby tylenol down the drain.

Breast Cancer linked to personality???

A strange article in the paper today - finally they think that a woman's personality is NOT related to the chance she gets breast cancer. It turns out just because a woman is stoic does not mean she more likely to get the disease. I'm wondering how a study such as that could ever get funded?

I can't get the link to work, but if you go to Bostonglobe.com and search under cancer, it's the top article. Sorry!

wOOt wOOt! Mooomie's calves are coming home!

As you can see, my daughter's flight from India (111) is scheduled to get in on time. Then it is just a short JetBlue flight back to Boston. I'm assuming she is on the flight, since she was scheduled to take it. So tonight she'll be home.

Plus, my other daughter is coming down this week from college with some classmates and a couple of professors to participate in a theatre festival in a city half an hour from my house. They will all come over for dinner one night this week. So my house is going to be busy, which is the way I like it best!

I'll do my little happy dance by myself today, so I don't act too crazy in front of my daughters and their friends! :)

Yorkie - it's not for girls????

It seems really funny unless you're female, or have daughters, or a mother, or a sister, or know anyone who is female! Then it is just a little confusing, and of course, sad :(

My home office - a video tour while in pajamas

A tour of my home office! Warning! Lots of clutter and power cords. And also mooomie in her pajamas. I don't use my office because it is a total mess. It is much easier to just do my computer stuff in the kitchen. I think we could wall off this room and never miss it.

Painting of my other daughter

She did this one from a photograph - it's a picture of her older sister when she was a toddler. Note the Steelers hat! You can also not that it looks like she's about to be run over by a Dodge truck! Maybe that's a bit of a sibling rivalry thing going on there!

Painting my daughter did for me!

Here's a painting I got my daughter to do for me while she was still in high school. I had asked her to do something with trees and depth - this is much more stark than I was expecting, but it has slowly grown on me. Now I really like it!

Coriander clove coffee??? Yuck!!!

You need to understand that my husband and I are very picky about our coffee. We buy special beans, use filtered water, and brew fresh daily. I never buy prepared coffee because I'm usually disappointed. So the last couple of weeks have been tough, because the coffee we've brewed has tasted, well, a little strange!

I've accused my husband of buying cheap beans, he's accused me of changing the toothpaste, and we've both told the other that they need more sleep. There have been accusations flying back and forth at 6:30 AM, and it hasn't been pretty. It has been nasty.

So today, we actually smelled the grinder. It smells like coriander. Guess what? My son used the coffee grinder to grind up cloves and coriander for Indian food he was making with his girlfriend!! And he never bothered to tell us.

I could get really mad at my son for ruining the last two weeks of my existence. But first, I need to buy a new grinder and bill him for it!

Hijack a Mac! Be part of our team????!!!!!

Here's a call to all utterer-er-ers! A chance to hi-jack a Mac on your own turf. We can have virtual hijacking nationwide. All that we ask is that you go to your local Apple store and upload an utter on a specific day. You might have to wear special clothing to show you are part of this movement. If you're interested in joining our team, please reply. We can all wear matching T-shirts with Hijack a Mac written in beautiful blue and red sharpies (to show that we aren't terrorists!). (maybe Fricka can help - shirts aren't really my strong point!).

Check out ResPres's test hi-jack at http://www.utterz.com/…NQ/utt.php

I think we'll all get Bessies for this - that is, if we aren't arrested.

From luddite to mooomite

1482 utters! Well, now it is 1483 - since this is one more. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Or is it an old cow new tricks? Or a middle-aged cow ... well, never mind.

I'm officially no longer a luddite. A new word for new technology - I'm officially a mooomite!

super cool new hockey skates

These are so pretty I would wear them! They would look so great with shiny spandex leggings. Mooomie is now thinking of a great outfit if I ever get invited to a disco-hockey theme party. Vector 10 super cool CCM hockey skates. Cool enough for mooomie. Anyone thinking of hosting a disco-hockey party? I'm available!

Finally! News from India! (but who is Viraj?)

I have finally heard from my daughter who is volunteering in a school in northern India! No news about the XO she brought over, and still nothing on the blog, but this is a start! The following words are hers (I deleted a couple of phrases that wouldn't make sense out of context!)

" ... lots of happiness and men holding each other and people smiling at you %u2026(lots of) driving on the top of jeeps and home-made malt beer in the one-room dirt floored house of my new best friend viraj. this is about my favorite place in the world. this morning we hiked up to see the sunrise above kanchunjunga (third highest peak) and it was incredible. o, and of course on the path we had to move aside to make room for a wandering cows. becuase they're EVERYWHERE even 3 miles into a cliffy steep mountain path. ...%u2026 i love it here and the culture. I just kind of miss toilet paper and running water. but the owner of the school just bought a puppy!!!!! so you know where i'm spending my time. ummmmmm i have far far far too much to say in any email. i might be bringing home some indian babies with me. we'll see how that goes. my skin is terrible, my hair is knotted, i smell bad and i have 700 pictures. and i'm happy. very happy."

The school is at http://www.gandhi-ashram-school.org/home.php

Facebook in my face

Attention Facebook users! Do not log-in to your Facebook account using the home computer when you visit your boyfriend or girlfriend! And don't click "remember me" if you do. Your significant other's mother DOES NOT want to accidentally sign in under your name, and see photos of you or find out what you are doing in your free time. She really doesn't. Mothers really like to leave quite a bit to the imagination.

I've been trying for a year to get my daughter's former boyfriend's name off our computer. I erased part of the name for this image. I just can't get rid of the whole thing. It is so weird.

Oh, the problems of modern parenting! Who would have thought that the problem would be having too MUCH information about the people who want to date your children?

Living Barbies :(

I found three living Barbies while up in Toronto - they were promoting the new Budweiser beer campaign that involves fantasy parties on airlines. I was so shocked to see women dressed the way they were that I didn't dare even ask to take their photo. All three had long blond hair, tight very short skirts, tight blouses with one too many buttons undone, and high heels. I took this photo as they left.

Now understand, they did look great. But the message was one about sex and beer going together.

I was so disappointed in them and in Budweiser.

She is happy to have me back home ...

My cat is as excited as a cat can get to have me back home. She sat next to me for over an hour. That's about as close as my cat gets to showing love!

Bessie not in the big apple

Here she is in my hotel BEFORE I gave her away. I'm not certain why there are apples all over the hotel, but there are. These ones are near the elevator. Just sitting there begging to have their photo taken. Pretty, but they don't make a lot of sense. Still, Bessie was quite happy to be with them for this photo.

Bessie goes sight seeing

Here is Bessie with the CN tower in Toronto! While I was taking this, some random parking lot attendent was talking to me about his infant son ... well, once I heard the word baby, I lost all sensibility, and ended up giving away my Bessie.

Bessie meets Canadian Beer

It is soooooo cold up here in Toronto! So we've been doing a lot of indoor things, which mostly have involved drinking Canadian beer. And look who came along for the ride - Bessie! She's sampling her first Alexander Keats Indian Pale Ale. What a happy cow!

Animal Dialects

Here is a chart of some of the sounds common animals make in different languages! It turns out that Bessie would "nyow" in China, and "mmuuh" in Germany! In Hindi she would "maaaaeow".

But there is more to it than that! I have learned that animals have regional accents! "Scientists last year reported bearded seal vocalizations so different that males from Alaska may have trouble understanding males of the same species from Canada"! Other species having regional accents include cows, dogs, frogs, and birds!

So if animals can't even understand each other, is there any hope for humans?

One more cow shirt - sorry, my ADD is showing !

This T-shirt is from an ice cream place near where I live. It was a gift from the friend of one of my daughters. She worked there and knew how much I liked cows!
