Wanting python for Thanksgiving in Botswana!

Yikes! Here's what my daughter in Botswana wrote. I think I need to fly over there and cook her a turkey. Or at least personally speak to all those wild animals that continue to visit her campsite at night:



HAPPY THANKSGIVING!



last night I woke up in my tent to the sounds of screams and thudding. I walked outside and turns out there was a 6 foot python in our campsite that the camp guards had to beat to death with a stick. It looked really meaty and we were tempted to ask if we could cook it up for thanksgiving, turns out they're kind of tasty. Too bad we're just having some frozen turkey that we will attempt to cook over a campfire.



Hope all of you have a delightful thanksgiving with better stuffing than the stale bread I will try to eat as a substitute.

Pig's head - roasted

I spent the weekend complaining about the upcoming holidays, while my sister spent the weekend preparing a holiday feast, including a roasted pig's head. I'll admit, it looks very nice - probably as nice as a pig's head can look! But I'm still not eating it!

Primal scream

Ever get so that there are just too many voices in your head??? And they won't go away? Because there are just too many things on your mind??? And things just seem too confusing and rushed and the voices get really loud, and it gets harder to concentrate???

Probably not - is my guess. But that's the way it is for me. Right now my voices are all chatting away. They are more than chatting! They are having conversations, talking to each other, and also to me.

It is almost time for a primal scream.

That will scare them away.

Warning - IF you are related to me in any way, or if you live in a city anywhere on this planet, or IF you have red hair, you will probably be pick pocketed this week. My husband mentioned this last week, but I chose to ignore him. But now he has brought the book home from the library. Can you work four hours and make a living? Better question - what am I going to do with him for the other 36 hours when he should be working?????

Calling Botswana for only $2

I just did what any other mother would do if their child was in Africa: I went to the dollar store and bought a calling card to call her. For $2 I got 20 minutes on the phone. I don't think there is a cheaper mooomie out there anywhere. But, the thing worked, so I'm feeling pretty good about my investment!

Caterpillars for dinner in Botswana

So my daughter headed off for the wilds of Botswana. She has found an internet cafe and sent me an email!! I thought she'd be eating beef, but it turns out it is caterpillars. Now I'm glad she is there, and not me.



Here are her words ... "i'm in BOTSWANA and it is great. i see monkeys and baboons everywhere. right now we are staying on a nature reserve which has hot running water which i guess we're not going to get very much. my group seems awesome so far, but it's obviously only been 3 days. we ate caterpillers last night. which was traumatizing becuase i HATE THEM. they taste like grass and are really chewy and very much a caterpillar. right now i'm at the internet cafe becuase our group leader literally took us into the city and dropped us off random places and told us we had five hours to roam and meet in some far away location. so i've been kind of forced to get to know the city and haven't been disappointed."

Botswana

My daughter is now enroute to Botswana - I just checked her flight status and she is about to cross over Namibia - Delta shows you exactly where the plane is when you check on the flight. So I had to share!



Hey - for all you Utterz users out there who live in Botswana (I'm sure there are lots of you - ha ha!) If you happen to see a red headed female wonder walking around, could you tell her to email her mother?? Oh, and make sure she's eating her vegetables. That is, if they have vegetables in Botswana. If they don't, then never mind.

my vuarnet sunglasses worth over $60!!!!

Whoah! It's a good thing that I never throw anything out!! I just dug up some Vuarnet sunglasses which I bought in high school - in those days, those were the glasses to own! I found them to lend to my daughter for Africa, since I assume it will be sunny there most of the time. Well, I found a sort of similar vintage pair on ebay, and they are going for over $60.00!! And mine are in better condition!

So maybe, after she returns, I will sell them on eBay. Assuming my daughter doesn't lose them first. :)

My absence explained & my daugher's intestines

Why no utterz? I have been sitting in the waiting rooms of a couple of different hospitals over the last two weeks while my daughter has had all kinds of tests done to rule out a major medical condition. Here's a photo of her upper intestine, which apparently is quite normal. It turns out my daughter is indeed well enough to go to Africa. So now I don't have to worry about a medical issue while she is there. Just back to the basic worries again - malaria, AIDS, parasites, lions, hyenas, and of course, falling in love with an Africa and never coming home!

tacky picture required for Mother-in-law visit

My mother-in-law is coming a visit tomorrow! Thanks to @ck67 I have been reminded to have her photo out on my mantel. Last time I didn't, and I won the worst daughter-in-law in the world competition.

This time, I have to find a place for my new picture from her - a very tacky photo of Rockport, Mass. It is 3D (sort of) before the advent of holograms.

After she goes, it is going to ebay. I think I'll get a lot of money for it - there can't be many pictures like this in the world!
